# FAQs

> **Desktop setup required**
>
> Avici cannot currently be set up from a mobile app or mobile browser.
>
> * **CLI setup** requires a supported desktop app or local terminal.
> * **MCP setup** requires ChatGPT or Claude in a desktop web browser.

### 1. Can I set up Avici on my phone?

No. Initial setup cannot be completed from a mobile app or mobile browser.

Use:

* The ChatGPT desktop app for the ChatGPT CLI setup
* Claude Code and a local terminal for the Claude CLI setup
* A desktop browser for Claude MCP
* A desktop browser for ChatGPT MCP

### 2. Can I install the CLI from a web browser?

No. Browser-based chats cannot install or run the local Avici CLI.

The CLI requires an agent with access to your computer and terminal.

### 3. Can I add Avici MCP from a mobile browser?

No. Add and authenticate the custom MCP connection from a desktop browser.

Mobile availability after setup depends on the AI platform. Use the desktop browser or desktop app for consistent access.

### 4. Which setup should I use?

| Where you use your agent | Setup |
| ---------------------------------- | --------- |
| ChatGPT Desktop with Codex | Avici CLI |
| Claude Code                        | Avici CLI |
| Another agent with terminal access | Avici CLI |
| Claude or Claude Desktop | Avici MCP |
| ChatGPT chat                       | Avici MCP |

### 5. Do I need both CLI and MCP?

No. Choose the setup that matches where you use your AI assistant.

Use the CLI for agents with local terminal access. Use MCP for ChatGPT or Claude chats without terminal access.

You may install both if you regularly use multiple AI platforms.

### 6. What can Avici show me?

Avici can read:

* Your total wallet balance
* Token holdings grouped by network
* Your Avici cards
* Available card spending power
* Card purchases
* Transaction activity
* Refunds

### 7. Can an AI agent move my money?

No. The current Avici CLI and MCP tools are read-only.

They cannot:

* Send or withdraw money
* Swap or bridge assets
* Top up an account
* Transfer funds
* Approve transactions
* Change your card or account settings

### 8. Why do I need to add a custom MCP server?

Avici is not yet approved in the official ChatGPT and Claude plugin directories.

For now, Avici must be added as a custom MCP server. The official Avici plugin is coming soon.

### 9. Is the custom MCP connection in beta?

Yes. Custom MCP support is currently a beta feature on ChatGPT and Claude.

Menu names, plan availability, and administrator controls may change while the platforms continue developing the feature.

### 10. What is the official Avici MCP URL?

Use `https://mcp.avici.money/setup`.

Only use an MCP URL published by Avici.

### 11. How does CLI login work?

The CLI displays a QR code.

1. Scan the QR code with the Avici mobile app.
2. Approve **Creator Dashboard**.
3. Keep the installation running until login is confirmed.

The CLI automatically detects approval.

### 12. How does MCP login work?

MCP opens a secure Avici login page in your desktop browser.

1. Enter the email attached to your Avici account.
2. Request a one-time code.
3. Enter the code on the Avici login page.
4. Select an account if more than one is available.
5. Return to ChatGPT or Claude after approval.

Do not post your one-time code inside an AI conversation.

### 13. Why does CLI use QR login while MCP uses email?

The CLI runs locally and can use the Avici mobile app to approve the connection.

MCP authentication happens through a browser-based OAuth flow, which uses your Avici email and a one-time code.

### 14. What if I used Sign in with Apple?

Your Avici account may use an Apple Private Relay email address.

The CLI is normally easier because QR login uses the account you approve in the Avici app.

For MCP login, use the email address attached to the relevant Avici account.

### 15. What if I have more than one Avici account?

CLI QR login uses the account you approve in the Avici mobile app.

MCP login displays an account picker when more than one Avici account is available.

### 16. Can I connect Avici to more than one AI assistant?

Yes. You can use Avici with multiple supported agents.

Each platform may require its own installation, connector setup, or login.

### 17. Where does the CLI store my login?

The CLI stores its session locally under `~/.avici/`.

The files use restricted permissions. Do not copy, upload, or share this folder.

### 18. How do I log out of the CLI?

Run `avici logout` in your terminal.

This clears the local Avici session.

### 19. How do I disconnect Avici MCP?

Open the app or connector settings in ChatGPT or Claude.

Find **Avici**, then select **Disconnect**, **Disable**, or **Remove**.

You can reconnect later and complete authentication again.

### 20. What should I do if my login expires?

For CLI, run `avici login`, scan the QR code, and approve **Creator Dashboard**.

For MCP, open the Avici connector or app settings and select **Connect** or **Authenticate**. Complete the email and one-time code login again.

### 21. The `avici` command is not found. What should I do?

Open a new terminal or restart your desktop agent.

Then run `$HOME/.avici/bin/avici version`.

If this returns an Avici version number, add the following to `~/.zshrc` or `~/.bashrc`:

`export PATH="$HOME/.avici/bin:$PATH"`

Then open a new terminal.

### 22. The QR code is not visible. What should I do?

Ask the desktop agent to display the generated QR image inline.

If you are running the installer directly in a terminal, the QR code should appear inside the terminal.

Keep the login command running while you scan and approve it.

### 23. The QR code expired. What should I do?

Run `avici login`.

Scan the new QR code and approve **Creator Dashboard** before it expires.

### 24. Developer mode is missing in ChatGPT. What should I do?

Make sure you are using ChatGPT in a desktop browser.

Developer mode availability depends on your plan and workspace permissions.

For managed workspaces, an administrator may need to grant access from **Workspace settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected Data**.

### 25. “Add custom connector” is missing in Claude. What should I do?

Make sure you are using Claude in a desktop browser.

For Team and Enterprise workspaces, an Owner or Primary Owner must add Avici to the organisation before members can connect their accounts.

The owner should use **Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web**.

### 26. ChatGPT or Claude cannot scan the MCP tools. What should I do?

Confirm that the MCP URL is entered exactly as `https://mcp.avici.money/setup`.

Then:

1. Confirm that you are using a desktop browser.
2. Check that developer mode or custom connectors are enabled.
3. Allow the Avici authentication window to open.
4. Temporarily disable browser extensions that block pop-ups.
5. Retry the tool scan.
6. Remove and recreate the custom app or connector if necessary.

### 27. Can Avici reveal my full card details?

Only when you explicitly request a specific card and the agent has access to a trusted local terminal.

Use the Avici CLI with ChatGPT Desktop or Claude Code.

Normal ChatGPT and Claude web chats cannot perform the required local decryption.

Never save card numbers or security codes in notes, files, prompts, or shared chats.

### 28. Does the CLI work on Windows?

The direct Avici CLI installer currently supports macOS and Linux.

Windows users should use Avici MCP through ChatGPT or Claude in a desktop browser.

### 29. How do I update the CLI?

Run `curl -fsSL https://avici.ai/install.sh | bash`.

The installer updates the CLI and Avici skills while preserving your existing Avici API configuration.

### 30. How do I confirm that CLI setup worked?

Run `avici overview`.

You should see your selected account, wallet balance, available card spending power, and recent card purchases.

### 31. How do I confirm that MCP setup worked?

Enable Avici in a new ChatGPT or Claude chat, then ask:

“What is my Avici wallet balance?”

The agent should retrieve your Avici account information.

### 32. Is my Avici password shared with the AI assistant?

No Avici password is required.

CLI login uses approval from the Avici mobile app. MCP login uses a secure Avici browser page with an email and one-time code.

Never send an authentication code inside a normal AI conversation.

### 33. Is Avici safe to use with an AI agent?

Avici’s current CLI and MCP tools are read-only.

However, wallet, card, and transaction information remains sensitive. Only connect Avici to AI platforms and devices you trust, and disconnect it when access is no longer needed.

### 34. When will the official Avici plugin be available?

The official Avici plugin is coming soon.

Until it is approved and listed, use the custom MCP setup documented in this guide.
